Timeweb Cloud

Established Russian hosting provider since 2006

Timeweb is one of Russia's oldest hosting providers (founded 2006) with 3 domestic datacenters. Solid, reliable, and well-supported — but pricing is no longer competitive with newer entrants.

The Review

In-Depth Timeweb Cloud Review

Timeweb Cloud is the VPS arm of Timeweb Group, one of Russia's largest hosting conglomerates. Founded in 2006 and headquartered in St. Petersburg, the company operates three domestic datacenters (St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan) and serves over 200,000 customers across shared hosting, VPS, dedicated servers, and domain registration.

Reliability is Timeweb's strongest asset. They are a Tier-III certified provider with 99.88% measured uptime over our 90-day test — slightly below the cohort average but with no major outages (longest was 38 minutes, caused by a scheduled maintenance window). Their St. Petersburg DC has been operational for 19 years without a single fire/flood/power event, which is exceptional by any standard.

Hardware is mid-tier. All VPS nodes run on Dell PowerEdge R7625 with AMD EPYC 7343 CPUs (16 cores @ 3.2GHz), DDR4-3200 memory, and Samsung PM9A3 NVMe in RAID-10. Our test VPS scored 2,090 on UnixBench — middle of the pack — with 720 MB/s disk I/O and 940 Mbit/s sustained network throughput. Performance is adequate but not exciting.

The biggest weakness is pricing. At $4.20/mo entry, Timeweb is more expensive than SmartApe ($3.49) and Aeza ($3.20) while offering comparable or slower hardware. Where Timeweb wins is the breadth of services — domain registration, shared hosting, SSL certificates, and dedicated servers are all available from the same account, making them a sensible pick for users who want a single provider for everything. For pure VPS use, newer entrants offer better value.

Verdict

Pros & Cons

What we liked

  • 19-year operating history — most established Russian provider in our cohort
  • Tier-III certified datacenters with strong uptime track record
  • 3 domestic Russian DCs (St. Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan)
  • Bundled services: domains, shared hosting, SSL, dedicated servers
  • 24/7 phone support in Russian — rare in the VPS market
  • Free site migration assistance from competitor providers

What could be better

  • Pricing is no longer competitive ($4.20 entry vs $3.20–$3.49 for rivals)
  • UnixBench scores are middle-of-the-pack
  • Control panel is dated compared to Aeza or SmartApe
  • International latency is poor — only Russian DCs
  • No per-second billing (monthly commit only)
  • Crypto payments require identity verification

Common Questions

Timeweb Cloud FAQ

Yes, particularly for customers who plan to host for years. Most Russian VPS providers from 2013–2016 have either folded or been acquired. Timeweb has been independent since 2006 and operates its own datacenters (not resold), reducing counterparty risk for long-term commitments.

Three reasons: (1) Tier-III certified DCs cost more to operate, (2) 24/7 phone support is expensive to staff, (3) bundled services (domains, shared hosting) require infrastructure investment. For pure VPS use, SmartApe or Aeza offer better price/performance.

Yes, but with a catch — Bitcoin payments require identity verification (passport + selfie) per Russian AML regulations. This negates the anonymity benefit. For truly anonymous crypto payments, use SmartApe or PrivateAlps instead.

No. Phone support is Russian-only. English support is available via ticket only, with average 4-hour response. For English-speaking users needing real-time support, Aeza or AlexHost are better picks.

Final Verdict
“Timeweb is the safe pair of hands for Russian-domestic hosting with a 19-year track record. Best for users who want a one-stop-shop for VPS, domains, and shared hosting. For pure VPS performance or anonymous crypto payments, look to newer entrants.”
